Sanctuary Farm Everlasting Care, a micro Sanctuary, provides a forever home for domestic & farm pets of the terminally ill & elderly & limited farm animal rescue.
Often as people approach the end of their life, facing illness or moving to an assisted living facility, one of the most emotional and vexing questions burdening them is "Who will take care of my beloved animal(s)?".
At Sanctuary Farm and Everlasting Care for Animals, we relieve you of this worry: your animals become beloved members of our animal family (and make new friends) for the rest of their lives.
Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains of Amherst County, Virginia, our twenty acre property is fenced and protected with indoor and outdoor caregiving and comfort for your dogs, cats and birds, with additional areas for horses, goats and outdoor dogs.
Sanctuary Farm is dedicated entirely to the emotional and physical well being of all members of our animal family, regardless of species. We are committed to providing peace and security to people facing the end of life or new living arrangements that do not include their animals.
We understand that people facing these situations are not only concerned that their animals be cared for, but that they will be aided through the grief process after the loss of their owner, and will go on to live a happy life and find peace with a new pack, pride, flock or herd.
At Sanctuary Farm, we never put animals up for adoption. Once they come to live with us, they stay with us for the rest of their lives. We strive to create a stable, loving environment where each animal is free to develop their full potential; to make friends — or not — with whomever they choose; have a job, if they are willing; and to become an integral part of a large, multi-species family.
Dr. Jody Bart, the owner and operator of Sanctuary Farm, has more than 35 years of experience caring for members of many species.
I started Sanctuary Farm Everlasting Care for Animals as a business about 17 years ago, but I had the idea since I was 4 years old. I don’t remember why it came to me, but I always understood that most folks are not afraid of “death”, per say, they are afraid of what will become of the ones they love when they aren’t around to take care of them.
Later in life I learned that for many people, they aren’t afraid to leave their spouses or children or friends—these ‘people’ can be provided for or take care of themselves. At the very least, they can understand why their loved one is no longer present. Our animals, however, are a different story. Many people who have domestic or well-loved farm animals are truly afraid to leave them behind. Who will take care of them? Will my kids be able to do it? Will my friends put my animals in the pound or shelter? Even if someone agrees to ‘care’ for them, will they really love them in the way I want them to be loved?
That is why the Sanctuary is here. We want to take your fears of leaving this life away. We want to assure you that your beloved animal will come here to a forever home, spoiled, loved, played with, taken care of in just the manner you would do if you could. We work with helping your animals overcome their grief of losing you. We help them find a new place in a new pack, pride, flock or herd. We want to help you pass from this earth with the peace of knowing that your animal friends will be okay, well and loved.
This is our mission. This is our life. And hopefully, this service to those of you who will be moving on soon will also help us to continue to serve some of the other beautiful creatures of this world who could use a hand getting started in life.
